International retailer, TK Maxx, has caused quite a stir amongst the shoppers of Newtownards as it opened its doors as the new anchor tenant of Ards Shopping Centre yesterday.

Occupying a 23,000 sq ft site, TK Maxx becomes the latest brand to launch at Ards as part of a brand new, approximately £7 million redevelopment within the centre, which includes another two retail units and a café.

The news follows the recent store launch for JD Sports, whose 4,400 sq ft store opened on 10 September. Continuing the momentum, both brands will soon be joined by B&M Bargains, who are opening a 10,000 sq ft store adjacent to TK Maxx at the end of September.

Ards Shopping centre has been trading for 40 years, and currently welcomes in excess of 100,000 visitors each week.

Commenting on the news, Ken McGavock, Manager of Ards Shopping Centre said: “I am absolutely delighted to be welcoming TK Maxx to the centre today.

“They are a fantastic, world-leading brand which I have no doubt will be a huge hit with our shoppers – old and new.

“The opening of JD Sports has also been a very welcome addition to the centre, and B&M Bargains will give us another very strong brand to add to our excellent retail mix.”

Ken concluded: “We are also fast approaching our 40th birthday month and I would personally like to take this opportunity to thank all of our loyal customers’ for their support over the years and look forward to welcoming them back into the centre for what I hope they will find an enhanced shopping experience.”
