The Masters has been and gone and now golfers around the globe are celebrating the unofficial start of a new season. While golfers in the U.K. and Ireland also will be anticipating 15 April – “Golf’s Opening Day” – the beginning of what UK company GolfNow says is shaping up to be the busiest season to date.

Brian Smith, vice president of International Sales for GolfNow, the No. 1 provider of online golf booking software in the U.K. and Ireland said: “Golf’s Opening Day is always the first weekend after the Masters and without a doubt is always one of our busiest days of the year.

“The weather has generally taken a turn for the better, the nights are brighter and following the Masters there is a fantastic atmosphere in clubs up and down the country.

“This year, we are on par to beat all records, with an anticipated 14,000 rounds of golf booked for that day alone.”

GolfNow, which is part of the BRS Golf group, is owned by NBC, which is head quartered in London and has offices worldwide. BRS Golf was founded in 1995 by Northern Ireland golf fanatics and IT experts Brian and Rory Smith, and was acquired by GolfNow in June 2013. This strategic alliance gave the local company global status, becoming a division of the Golf Channel television network and positioning them as one of the leading providers of golf technology in the world.

Brian continued: “The golfing industry is going through a real boom period at present.

“BRS Golf has generated some £12million in online revenue for our golf course partners in the United Kingdom and Ireland, which has grown above 10% year on year, for the past ten years. GolfNow allows us to communicate to the avid golfer looking for a great choice of clubs on the day and time of our choosing, and at a price that fits his or her budget.

“In addition, we recently celebrated 30 million rounds of golf booked in 2015 through our cloud-based reservation platform. That’s equivalent to one booking, every second, all year.”

GolfNow provides tee-time access to more than 9,000 courses for more than 3.5 million registered users worldwide.

Rory Smith, GolfNow’s vice president of Integrated Products, continued: “With the countdown well and truly on for the start of the new season, and Golf’s Opening Day, we are hoping to smash all targets and have another boom year from which all of the UK and Ireland will benefit.

“One of GolfNow’s main aims is to grow the game and participation is looking good. Recently release European Tour Research shows that over 9.3million adults take part in some form of golf. Whilst the traditional 18-hole format has 3.5million players.

“Other quicker formats are taking off – these include nine-hole golf, foot golf and even night golf. Our booking systems help Golfers have up-to-the-minute access to tee times, courses and the hottest deals available.”
