Tell me about the Top Model Worldwide Ireland competition?

TOP MODEL WORLDWIDE IRELAND is an all-Ireland model search competition that has been officially licensed from TOP MODEL UK / TOP MODEL WORLDWIDE. Since the first prize is a guaranteed place in the Top Model Worldwide Grand Final to be held in the London, April 2014, this is a fantastic opportunity for aspiring models to fast-track into the London Fashion scene.

The competition is being run by Lurgan Photographer – Avril Mawhinney and Claudia Farrell, also from Lurgan. Claudia was a contestant in last year’s TOP MODEL UK finals and was so impressed with the experience that she decided to join with Avril to stage this year’s all-Ireland competition. Avril runs Finesse Photography and Finesse School of Modelling.  She has been associated with TOP MODEL UK for about 8 years had the honour to be a judge at the TOP MODEL WORLDWIDE 2012 final.

So where and when is this all happening?

The competition is being staged in Brownlow House / Lurgan Castle on 22nd November.  Since it’s a fashion / modelling event, we would like this to be a Black Tie event and for guests and supporters to “dress to impress”.  The compère will be Emma Little from Banbridge who won the TOP MODEL UK – Natural Beauty award a few years ago.  Music will be provided by Paul Orr – Downtown Radio.  The judging panel will include the Chief Executive of the TOP MODEL brand.

Who can enter?

The competition is open to girls from Ireland, North and South, aged 16-26 on 5th April 2014. There are no height restrictions for this competition.  Non-Irish girls resident in Ireland for 4 years or more can also enter and anyone under 18 years of age will have to have a parent’s permission.  We must stress that this is not a beauty pageant – models need to show their personality and maybe a wee bit of “attitude”.   Natural beauty is good.

How do you enter?

All the information about the competition including the rules and entry form are on line www.topmodelireland.com  There is an audition stage to preselect those suited for the main competition.  If a model gets though the audition then there is a cost of £150.  We would hope that the models can raise personal sponsorship from local businesses, maybe even friends and family to cover this.

Where are the heats and the grand final?

First prize is a guaranteed place in the Top Model Worldwide Grand Final to be held in the London Hilton Metropole Hotel, 5-6th April 2014. (Air fares and hotel for two people will be included.) The winner will be competing with about 30 other models from across the world. If the winner is from Northern Ireland, then, at the judges’ discretion, they may also be entered into the TOP MODEL UK grand final.

What can participants expect to take away from the event.

The winner goes on to represent Ireland at the TOP MODEL finals in London. We have a number of sponsors who are offering additional prizes including a designer dress, photo-shoots, jewellery, shopping vouchers, make-overs, fashion accessories, etc.  There will be prizes for the runners up as well.

If you win, it might be the start of an amazing career.  If you don’t win, you’ll have had a fantastic experience, loads of fun, upped your self-esteem and met a lot of new friends – just brilliant!

Finally if you had one bit of advice to give to someone thinking of entering but not sure what would that be?

Just go for it!  You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Have you sponsors for the event?

Current sponsors include David Henderson – Designer, Bellaire Boutique, Lipsy, Finesse Photography, Natural Health First Makeup, Maire-Claire Ferguson Millenary, Paddy McGurgan Makeup, Orlagh Maye Salon.  We will probably add a few more closer to the event.

Breast Cancer Awareness will be present at the competition – we hope everyone will make a donation to a really worthwhile cause.
