County Down company “links” up with Dubai Duty Free Irish Open and Rory Foundation with own Champagne brand.
Award-winning wine supplier, JN Wine, has produced its own brand of champagne for this year’s Dubai Duty Free Irish Open, hosted by the Rory Foundation.
In a world-first, the Crossgar-based business will supply all the champagne for the event which takes place this year at the prestigious Royal County Down Golf Course.
Hundreds of thousands of glasses of JN Champagne will be raised to cheer on players as the event returns to the prestigious Royal County Down after a 76 year absence. The champagne, which is described as delicate and elegant with aromas of brioche and honey and a lemony finish, has been sourced from family run vineyards in Epernay area of Champagne.
JN Wine, Ireland’s leading independent wine merchant, will also be directly supporting the Rory Foundation which is the official host of this year’s event. The Foundation was established last year by golf’s world number one Rory McIlroy to raise funds for children’s charities across the world including the Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children’s Daisy Lodge.
James Nicholson of JN Wine, which last year won ‘Regional Merchant of the Year’ for Northern Ireland at the International Wine Challenge Awards in London for a record 22nd time, says the company is proud to be associated with such a world-class event.
“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to be involved at this level with an event like the Irish Open. Sourcing quality wine producers is our area of expertise and we’re thrilled that guests and the world-class players at this event will be drinking our champagne, as well as this year’s champion popping open a magnum at the winner’s ceremony at the 18th.
“It’s been a fantastic year for the champagne region, and let’s hope it’s an equally good year for our home-grown players. Anything that puts Northern Ireland on the world stage for the right reasons is cause for celebration, and what better way to celebrate than with JN champagne.
“While we’re exceptionally proud to get involved in a prestigious event like this, it’s also an opportunity for us to support the Rory Foundation and its incredible work with Daisy Lodge and other charities, and we want to raise as much money as we can on their behalf.”
Barry Funston, Chief Executive of the Rory Foundation welcomes the support of JN Wine saying:
“The Rory Foundation are delighted to be hosting the Irish Open, Rory’s home event. We are thrilled to be given this opportunity and are thankful for the support from James Nicholson and his team. We hope we can raise as much funds as possible for the Foundation’s chosen children’s charities.”
Antonia Beggs, Irish Open Championship Director for The European Tour, said:
“Some of the biggest names in the golfing world will be enjoying JN champagne, as well as the thousands of visitors we expect to welcome to the illustrious Royal County Down Golf Course. We’re delighted to be working James and the team, and look forward to tasting the first ever Champagne to be produced for an Irish Open event.”
