Holiday Inn ‘chips in’ support for the Fred Daly Memorial Pro-am tournament

Belfast’s newest and most exciting hotel, Holiday Inn, Belfast City Centre, has been named as the title sponsor of this Thursday’s Holiday Inn Fred Daly Memorial Pro-am tournament.

The event, to be held at Balmoral Golf Club, will see some of Ireland’s finest professional golfers battle it out on the stunning 18-hole course for the highly coveted cup and £13,000 prize fund.

Gerry Davey, Captain of Balmoral Golf Club commented: “Myself and the entire Club are looking forward to one of the biggest events in our calendar, held in memory of one of the world’s finest golfers, Fred Daly, who was associated with this club for over 45 years.

“We will welcome golfers from some of the finest clubs in the country and really put them through their paces on our challenging Daly course.

Gerry concluded: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank our lead sponsor, the Holiday Inn Belfast City Centre, who will be providing much needed refreshments, corporate gifts and a marquee for the golfers on the day. Ewings Shipping has also provided a fantastic level of support- without both this event simply wouldn’t be as successful as it is.”

The Fred Daly Pro-am tournament is an annual event, attracting professional golfers from all over Ireland, who battle it out for a prize fund of over £13,000 and a highly coveted trophy. In 1947, Fred Daly was the first Irishman to win the Open at the age of 36. Fred achieved much in his career, including three times British Matchplay Champion and is only the second man this century to do the double of the Open and the Matchplay.

Rajesh Rana, director of Andras Hotels, Belfast’s largest hotel group, commented: “I am delighted to be hear once again, providing sponsorship of this fantastic event.

“This year, we are thrilled that the sponsorship is being provided by our new city centre hotel brand, Holiday Inn, which is set to officially open later this month, following a £2.5million upgrade of our former Days Hotel.

“The new hotel will offer 250 bedrooms and is the perfect accommodation to visitors attending local sporting events like this across the province. We look forward to supporting this event and others in years to come.”

The new Holiday Inn, Belfast City Centre, is located on site of the current Days Hotel at 40 Hope Street, Belfast BT12 5EE, and will see all 250 bedrooms refurbished. The public areas will feature a remodeled lobby, which will boast a library area with feature fireplace, a new bar and reception. A new restaurant concept, The Oakwood Grill, will offer a New England-style cuisine and the Holiday Inn will provide 24-hour room service. The hotel will also benefit from a new dry gym, and an updated meetings and conference room, with a 60 person capacity and free WiFi throughout the entire property.
