It’s National Sunglasses Day (Thursday, June 27) and to mark it, sight loss charity RNIB NI has teamed up with Specsavers, Newtownabbey to offer one lucky person the chance to win a pair of Hugo Boss designer sunglasses worth £149!

To enter this competition, help us raise awareness of the importance of protecting your eyes by posting a #ShadesForSight sunglasses selfie on RNIB NI’s Twitter or Facebook page.

Make sure you tag friends in your post and encourage them to take part and spread the message of #ShadesForSight.

Reasons to Wear Shades
It is estimated that by 2030, the number of people with sight loss in Northern Ireland will have increased by 31 per cent.[1]

Nearly half of all cases of sight loss are preventable [2] and it’s important to protect those peepers by wearing your sunglasses this summer.

Research suggests that the harmful UVA and UVB rays contained in sunlight may be a factor in a number of eye diseases, in particular macular degeneration and cataracts, which add up to 42 per cent of sight loss conditions [3].
