This month, Judith Mulgrew discusses the best kept secret for younger looking skin!

Flawless, beautiful skin is something we all aspire to having. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have a magic wand to roll back the years and leave your skin looking and feeling baby soft, youthful and radiant?! Whilst treating clients, I notice the first thing many of them complain about when it comes to their skin is signs of ageing. Lines and wrinkles tend to be the first thing we notice, however few of us realise that pigmentation and redness of the skin can be just as ageing! When we consider celebrities such as Helen Mirren and Meryl Streep who have embraced their lines and grown old gracefully we rarely think of how old they look, but rather how amazing they still look!

Neither of these beautiful women are botoxed to the high heavens, both have lines just like the rest of us – but their skin is clear and radiant, the ultimate secret to looking younger.

Growing up, pigmentation and broken veins were things I had never even heard of, let alone cared about! Like most of us, I was too busy enjoying the sunshine and topping up my tan to care about the harmful and long-lasting effects the sun. Pigmentation is caused by UV damage to the dermal layers of the skin, resulting in an overproduction of melanin – the brown pigment that causes freckles and what we often refer to as ‘sun spots’. Often the damage occurs at a young age, but doesn’t become visible on the skin until later in life.

IPL Photo-rejuvenation is a safe and effective treatment for removing pigmentation from the skin. Using a broad spectrum of light which targets melanin, it breaks down the darker pigment which is then absorbed by the body, rendering it less visible.
The treatment is non-ablative, non-invasive and can be carried out quickly with no downtime. It is suitable to treat all areas of the body, including the face, neck, chest and hands.

Equally, IPL can be used effectively to target and reduce redness, rosacea, dilated blood vessels and broken veins. It also benefits the skin texture, naturally stimulating collagen and minimising open pores.

For most people, 3 treatments are required for optimum results. Treatments can be carried out 6-8 weeks apart and can take as little as 15-20 minutes to carry out. This is a must have treatment for clearer, radiant, younger looking skin – your skin will thank you for it!
