To celebrate its 25th Anniversary Year, Cinemagic produced Northern Ireland’s and Ireland’s first Christmas feature film A Christmas Star. The plans for the feature film production were announced just a year and a half ago by Cinemagic patron, Oscar-winning Screenwriter and Downton Abbey creator, Julian Fellowes. Over 5,000 young people auditioned for the innovative film project which gave young people, from different cultural backgrounds the chance to star in a film supported by many artists from the world of film and television including Liam Neeson, Pierce Brosnan, Robert James Collier, Bronagh Waugh, Richard Clements and Suranne Jones. Forty young trainee crew were mentored by industry professionals who trained them in all aspects of filmmaking including directing, production, editing, cinematography, camera operation, publicity, wardrobe, make-up and music composition. The final scene of the film was shot at the Christmas Lights Switch on at Belfast City Hall last year with 12,000 people in attendance!
Joan Burney Keatings, Cinemagic Chief Executive said “Cinemagic is immensely proud of We Can Shine and Zena’s talent. Zena’s enthusiasm and energy really stood out when we first met her at the film auditions and she has been a joy to work with. The whole team behind the film music and the production of the soundtrack have worked incredibly hard and we the passion and dedication they have shown has been inspiring for all involved. We Can Shine showcases the skills and talents of many people who came together for the first time to work on this special Cinemagic project and we can’t wait to share it in the lead up to the world premiere of the film this November.”
A Christmas Star is on general release in Ireland and the UK from 13th November
