CARA DELEVINGNE, the name on everyone’s lips has been announced as the face of the re-vamped brand, Saint Laurent.
Model of the moment, Delvingne has taken not only the catwalk by storm but the fashion houses that are all going out of their way to swoop in and snap her up first. Previously Yves Saint Laurent, the brand is keen to keep up with its image overhaul by having famous faces of the music industry front their campaigns. Saint Laurent’s Creative Director, Hedi Slimane, is moving the brand in a new direction, with the music artist vibe taking precedent. Their creative vision is echoed through the use of Courtney Love and Marilyn Manson in their other campaigns.
The 20 year old model stars in Saint Laurent’s Autumn/Winter 2013-14 advertisements. Although Delevingne is everywhere at the moment, her stint with Saint Laurent will most likely catapult her career to new heights. The images for the new campaign were shot by Hedi Slimane, his first A/W campaign since he joined the brand in March 2012. Cara has her foot firmly in the door of the fashion house not only looking fierce as the face of the campaign but also fronting the brand’s Beauty’s Baby Doll mascara.
The model donned biker boots, fishnets and leather to star in the seductive yet grungy feel Saint Laurent ads. Her dark, bushy eyebrows that are her trademark are accentuated and brought to the fore in the video. She looks every inch the perfect Saint Laurent pin-up girl, reflecting the smoky, seductive nature the brand is trying to convey. Cara is the epitome of California Grunge Chic in the ads.
She has also modelled for other big houses such as Burberry, Chanel, H&M, Zara and Dolce & Gabbanna. The 5 foot 9, blonde haired model was described by British Vogue as the “star face” of the A/W 2012-13 show season, hence why fashion houses are seeking her out. In the ad she appears alongside DIIV musician, Cole Smith where they smoulder in a California sea-side photo shoot. The video is accompanied by music from DIIV, keeping up with the 90’s grunge theme that the advertisement is tailored towards.
It is clear to see why Delevingne was chosen to front the campaign as she has taken over the modelling realm even winning Model of the Year 2012 at the British Fashion Awards. She is the next big thing to come out of London, since Kate Moss.
