Ahead of ‘Blue Monday’ on 25 January, what is claimed to be the most depressing day of the year, Victoria Square is hosting a Wellness Weekend this weekend [Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 January 2016] to help customers combat the January blues.
The centre will be an arena for various activities including charity spin classes, to motivate shoppers and equip them with professional advice needed to plan a happy and healthy year ahead. Everyone will have the opportunity to take a mini health check with ‘Find Out’, sample nutritious food from Yo! Sushi and Slim’s Healthy Kitchen, participate in dance and yoga classes by The Crescent Arts Centre Outreach & Education Department and lots more.
One of the highlights of the weekend will be the energetic spin class hosted by Ireland’s leading sporting charity, The Mary Peters Trust, Victoria Square’s nominated charity. It will take place in the centre 1pm to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday and people of all ages and abilities are invited to take part. Mary Peters herself will be there to offer advice and coaching along with former 2 time World Boxing Champion and gym owner, Brian Magee. Funds raised at the weekend will go towards helping future local sports stars achieve their goals, like Graham McDowell, David Humphreys and Michael McKillop who are included in the charity’s alumni.
Personal Stylist, Katherin Farries, will also be on hand this weekend giving tips on how to dress according to your body shape and what colours suit your skin tone and hair colouring. She will also be giving her expert fashion advice on what’s new for the Spring Summer season ahead.
Speaking ahead of the event, Victoria Square Centre Manager Michelle Greeves said: “We’re hosting this event to make it easy for our shoppers to start the year in a healthy direction. Even a simple shopping trip around Victoria Square can count as part of your exercise regime as 10 laps around all the shops, restaurants and the cinema can achieve your recommended 10,000 steps per day and burn up to 500 calories. So get shopping!”
